Vibrant tales of settlement and survival…
Here To Stay is an energetic, high-impact exploration of the history of migrant groups arriving in New Zealand; entertainers, sports stars and celebrities add their personal stories to vibrant tales of settlement and survival.
This fascinating series brings the personality of New Zealand’s great, great grandparents to life; exploring their legacy, their triumphs, and their spirit. Following well-known Kiwi presenters, we stride alongside them on a path of personal discovery as they uncover the ethnic traditions and enduring values that have built the distinctive psyche of Nu Zillunders.
Actor and comedian Madeleine Sami (The Breaker Upperers) uncovers the hidden half of her Indian identity, sports legend Frano Botica delves into the tight relationship between Dalmatian settlers and Māori in the far North, and director/reporter Bernadine Lim discovers which Kiwi icons actually have a Chinese legacy. From the English, Irish and Dutch, to the French, Pacific Islanders and even the odd Scandinavian, each episode examines the values that Pākehā migrants brought that make us proud to be Kiwi, and keep us ‘here to stay’.
